Simple ways to relieve the suffering from stomach and bowel ailments
By: Knut Holt
Many people suffer from unpleasant symptoms through their
stomach, such as: Constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, cramps, inflated stomach, acid eructation and
pain related to such functional problems. Often these symptoms originate from a colon made dysfunctional
by poor lifestyle habits. Here are some simple lifestyle changes you can make that may help you get
rid of your stomach and bowel problems.
Eat food with high plant fiber content. Fibers from the food stimulate the movement of the
intestines, and especially of the colon, and help you avoid a stuffed bowel. Whole, unrefined cereals,
whole corn bread, vegetables and fruit will often give you the fiber you need. To get even more fiber,
you can add some bran to your daily diet.
Certain herbs or spices can help your intestines work more efficiently. For example, peppermint,
buckthorn bark, sienna, cayenne or ginger are among the stomach helpers. However, too much intake of hot spices
can irritate your intestines. Experiment and find that balance point
Drink more water. Too little water, through out the day, will make your stomach content hard
and dry. Your intestines have a hard time of moving such content along.
A or two cups of coffee or tea each day, can help your stomach work better, but too much
coffee or tea will give you stomach problems. Again try drining a little less until you reach a balance
where your stomach and intestines feel and work well.
Eat enough fat, but not too much. The right amount of fat in your food will help giving your
stomach content the right consistency. Most of the fat you consume should be a mix of fat from plant sources
like olive oil, fish, rape, nuts, sunflowers and almonds.
If you suffer from hard stools or constipation, add a couple tablespoons of
linen or flaz seeds to your diet for a few days can help. Suspend the seeds in a glass of water and let
it lie in the water some hours before stirring up the content of the glass and drinking it. You can
blend a couple tablespoons of bran together with the flax seeds in a glass of water to get the effects
of both these remedies at the same time. Drink plenty of water when you are using the seeds. And again
do this for only a few days.

Do not eat too much nor too little. Eat at regular intervals. Four meals a day is
usually optimal for most people.
Slow down, don't eat in a hurry. Chew your food well before swallowing it.
Physical exercise each day - even a short walk will help move food through your digestive system.
Relax, stress tightens the bowels and raises the acid level in your stomach. Breath deeply and take
a mental break every so often.
Eat products that contain digestion-helping bacteria. Healthy colons are filled with good bacteria
that assist in the digestive process. Yogurt or other types of fermented milk will provide
your colon with good bacteria. If you do not tolerate milk, or your colonic microbial content
needs special attention, try supplements such as acidophilus.
Stomach problems may result from hypersensitivity to certain food types. For example, many folks
are allergic to milk or wheat products. Hypersensitivity to the protein
gluten in wheat can be determined with a simple allergy test. Of course, you might have a stomach
illness that needs treatment. If simple measures such as these listed here are not helping you after
some days, seek medical attention.
Following the suggestion in this article can help you get rid of stomach and bowel
problems. It is important, to make this adaptations permanent to prevent the return of gastrinal problems.
Changein your eating and lifestyle habits
and increasing the amount of exercise you do can also be beneficial in other areas of your health!
